Here I will describe how I put together the show.
- Sequencing
- After choosing the song, I create a sequence with 0.05 timing in Light-O-Rama.
- I listen through the song usual at 1/2 or 1/4 speed and place markers whenever there is an event, such as a beat to a syllable in a word, so some effect. I often use 3 or 4 tracks for the different kinds of elements.
- After mapping the song, I import my channel configuration for the show and start sequencing.
- A single song can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or two depending on how long it is.
- Lights and Hardware
- I am using a 16-channel Light-O-Rama showtime unit, and a 16-channel D-Light DC-16 board.
- I use a radio transmitter in the house to broadcast the music, this makes its so I'm not playing music into the neighborhood and disturbing my neighbors.
- I also have some X-10 elements, for the radio sign, and such.
- For the controlled spot lights, I am using LED MR-16s, some with colored with gels.
- I built a custom enclosure that holds my controllers
- I built a custom power box to run the show on it's own dedicated circuits.
- For the holiday signs, they are mounted on hardware cloth (a wire mesh) with wood stakes to give support
- The "Tune to" sign is on a piece of coroplast that was custom painted by my wife.
- The strobe lights are curtain strobes, we use about 20 in the show.
